System 800: Faster Single-Use Cameras From Imation Scotch Photo Color Systems

Dallas, Texas (October 27, 1996) - Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) has announced that the next generation of its popular line of single-use cameras will be ready for shipment this fall.

The new Imationâ„¢ Scotchâ„¢ System 800 model adds the equivalent of one more stop in exposure latitude. Consumers can expect excellent results from these cameras under a wide range of conditions, both indoors and out.

"System 800 film is designed specifically to complement the exposure system in Imation's single-use cameras," said John Gregerson, marketing operations manager. "Improvements we have made to the film formulation and speed will compensate for situations when consumers want to shoot daylight pictures in lower light, such as near sunset or in open shade."

The wide exposure latitude offered by the Imation Scotch System 800 will give excellent prints with good detail and color whether shot in deep shade or in bright sunlight. Consumers can be assured of acceptable prints even when the film is underexposed by up to two stops. Enhanced tonal linearity will mean superb detail in both highlights and shadows. In addition, the System 800 will provide a rich color range in flash pictures, with a flash capable of illuminating a distance of up to 14 feet.

"Because of the high-speed film in the System 800, it can eliminate the most frequently expressed consumer concern about single-use cameras: underexposure," Gregerson said. "Optimized spectral sensitivity will provide lifelike reproduction of subtle colors in a wide range of natural and artificial lighting conditions. Good results will be achieved even under fluorescent illumination."

The System 800 offers greater emulsion stability for more consistent results even under less-than-ideal storage and handling conditions, and takes advantage of advanced manufacturing technologies - such as solvent reductions and biodegradable surfactant - to ensure minimal effects on the environment. The System 800 also was designed to accommodate greater processing latitude and printer compatibility; photo labs interested in boosting their productivity will appreciate the system's easy printer set-up and processing consistency.

System 800 will be available only in single-use cameras from Imation. All components of the System -- including the film, single-use camera cassettes, Imation Scotch packaging and private-label packaging -- will carry the System 800 identification.
